Uneventful weekend for me, but an eventful weekend for Malaysia

It was such a relaxing weekend for me. Didn't do much but cleaned the house, cooked some simple dish, read, slept, watched TV.. well, you get the drift.
My best friend over the weekend
Oh.. and I watched a few movies too.. "Addicted to Love" (Meg Ryan and Matthew Broderick), Ombak Rindu (which was on the Malay channel) and About Time (Rachel McAdams and Domhnall Gleeson).. semua best. Semua kisah cinta lah tapinya.. but oh well...

So yeah.. it was such a nice, quiet weekend. I cuma went out for lunch at Ozone.. tu pun kejap je. The weather dah start panas.. so I macam tak sabar nak balik rumah and sleep with the aircond on. Heh.

But in Malaysia, it's a different story altogether..

First, on Friday, the Court of Appeal sentenced Anwar to jail for sodomy. Now while I'm not a fan of Anwar (and I've been tired of his tricks and drama since my days as a reporter), I think it looks weird to pass a sentence just a few days before he is scheduled to run for election.
Back to jail?

And more so, I think it's sad to sentence a 60-something year old man to jail. Granted, he (allegedly) sodomized a young lad.So this shall be a lesson for all homosexuals and bisexuals in the Country.. be careful.. lest kena tangkap and sent to jail. Oh, and caned too.

Of course, the Opposition camp went berserk. Accused the Government of manipulating the judiciary system. So easy to just believe the conspiracy theory.. especially when this judgment was passed just days before Nomination Day (although news reports have said that his wife, Wan Azizah will now contest in Kajang instead).

Oh well.

The Missing MH370

Where are you, MH370?
Woke up yesterday to loads of Facebook newsfeed about the ill-fated MH370. Mum whatsapped too, telling me that friends were worried if they're on that plane. Fortunately, my parents went to Beijing the week I was in Nairobi and got back last week. Alhamdulillah.

But such a sad day it was. I saw sad pictures of family members taking a picture just before the flight. Which is pretty normal. I remember selfies and pictures with mum and dad at the airport too.. as they bade me farewell.Imagine sending off your loved ones only to realize that that is the last time you will see them alive.

Yeah.. MH370 is still missing. It's been more than 24 hours now. Can't help but think about the Air France crash in 2009. Plane went missing only to be discovered in the Atlantic Ocean some 2 years later.

Yes, planes can go off radar. Simply because it's man-made and it has defects. All things electronics can malfunction without rhyme or reason.

I am humbled to see how Malaysians (heck, not just Malaysians but from the global community too) all prayed (and are still praying) for the safe return of MH370. Of course, there are one or two insensitive morons who still threw stupid remarks.. but generally my FB newsfeed was flooded by kind words. People praying for the safe return, regardless the race and religion.

Oh. And proud too.. as almost all foreign news channels spoke about MAS' excellent track record. I have this strong affection for MAS, you know. I've always wanted to work for MAS ever since dad took me on my first plane ride when I was young. (NST, PETRONAS and MAS were my top three companies to work for, as I was growing up.)

I know I hardly fly MAS these days (simply because they don't fly to where I wanna go.. plus, they can be quite pricey as most of their flights are direct flights) but I still keep my Enrich membership.. a reminder how I still want to be associated with our national carrier.

My prayers are with you, MH370, wherever you are.
