Friends extraordinaire

It's only 8:30am and I'm already sweating profusely. Breakfast sent to Mister Veepee. He had a small cut while in the showers this morning, so had to make some phone calls to look for first aid kit (mental note: I must keep a first aid kit at home).

Walked to the office. Checked my email, only to find that I have left something important at home. So had to rush back home and here I am.. at the office. Again.

Work beckons but I'm still not quite ready for work. Hence, this blog entry.

As I was walking back to Complex just now (to pick up the important stuff that I left this morning), I was just thinking of how blessed I am to be in Khartoum. I don't have to brave through the jam just to get to work. I could just walk from home.. and the walk home, albeit a short one, is always pleasant.

There will always be a stranger (because I don't know his / her name) who will smile at me and say "Assalamualaikum", along the way. Occasionally, there'll be someone who will say "ya habibati" and stop me, shake my hand and ask if I'm ok. Doesn't matter if they have seen me walk by the last 10 minutes, they will still stop and say "keif, tamam?" (how, good?)

I feel blessed living in such a caring environment. The electricity gets cut off, I make one phone call and someone will be at my door in less than 5 mins.

I whatsapped everyone asking for something (eg: antiseptic lotion) and many responded and asked if I'm alright and told me that they have dettol / first aid kits etc.

It's hard to see the world as a vicious, cruel and unkind place when I live in this kind of environment. Kekadang, terasa macam dok ngan the Care Bears pulak.. sebab petang-petang, there will be kids playing at the playground just across the apartment. The adults (drivers, apartment supervisers etc) will be hanging around chatting.. greeting me as I walk by.

And then there's the Geng Tulips

Always just a Whatsapp away. I need to get something urgently and mesti someone will come to my rescue. The past few nights, I had to work late (to arrange for dinner for my Mister Veepee) and they all chipped in to help. Ezlin and Izman teman kan beli food kat Ozone after dinner semalam. They were all tired and they could have gotten home earlier.. but noooooooooooooo, they stayed back just to temankan I.

The night before, Rosli waited awhile sementara I arranged the dinner and then temankan I berbuka puasa di Spectra. And then Dods and Ezlin came all the way (from the dinner function) just to pick us up. And there's Isba who will always offer stuff when I need them i.e. daun pandan, santan etc.

Such kind hearted souls kan?

So it's kinda disheartening when I got news this morning (via Whatsapp) that the daughter of one of the staff was robbed and stabbed to death in front of her apartment in Kuala Lumpur early this morning. She was supposed to get married in December apparently. How could someone be so cruel? Nak curi tu, curi je lah. Kenapa perlu bunuh?

Oh well. Such is life, I guess. There are good people, and there are evil people. That's why we have heaven and hell kan?

I pray to the Almighty that I won't see such cruelty. May He protect me and keep me safe.. be surrounded by gentle, kind-hearted people.

Have a great day ahead, everyone.. and stay safe! Oh.. and nak jugak cakap.. I'm thinking it's going to be an awesome weekend ahead for me.. Geng Tulip Raya tomorrow night at my house and Merdeka Celebration at Rumah Malaysia on Saturday.. *wink wink*
