Hahah.. More holiday stories...? Oh noooo... Hahah.. But oh yesss... :p
I went back to KL for a short while hari tu (arrived on Oct 11 and flew off on Oct 15), met some awesome friends (yes, yes, will blog about KL and friends later too) and then went for my Europe adventure with my parents from Oct 16 - Oct 25. 9 days and 8 nights in total. Stayed at 4 different hotels (2 nights each hotel) and traveled within Europe by train, hoing from Amsterdam to Brugge to Brussels and finally to Paris.
Now Brugge is definitely worth a blog post.
I first went there in April this year, with Qistina. The thing is, I wouldn't have wanted to go to Brugge if it wasn't for Waida and Zareek, telling me how cantik the place is. I mean, I have heard of Brussels and London and Amsterdam and Prague (these are popular destinations for Malaysians).. but Brugge?
Brugge (or Bruges?)
Funny how even people in Belgium didn't quite know how to pronounce it. I was in Brussels when I chatted with a saleslady and told her that I want to go to Bru-gas. "Oh Bru-j, you mean?" She asked.
"Oh, is that how you pronounced 'Bruges'?" I asked.
"Oh.. so many people pronounced it in so many ways... but I call it 'Bru-j'," she casually replied.
Of course, me being me, I just have to google it up.. And so I found out that Brugge is actually a Flemish word, while Bruges is French.
So if you want to say it in French, you say "Bru-j", but if you want to say it in Flemish, you say "Bru-huh".
Weird, I know..but the mat salleh language is weird, to begin with.
Well anyway, it was love at first sight for me and Brugge
So yes... Zareek and Waida were eagerly telling me to "go, go, go" to Brugge. So I decided to give it a try. (After all, those two are seasoned travelers to Europe and I kinda trust their judgment.. heheh..) When I first got out of the train station, I thought the place was kinda deserted. We actually had to use Google map to locate our Ibis hotel, which turned out to be a very pleasant place.
But really, Brugge, to me, is like a book. You have to open the pages to see its beauty. It's not until Qistina and I walked to the town that the beauty was slowly unfolded.
Outside the Brugge train station is a road.. But across the road, the streets are all cobbled.
As we walked to the center of the town (or the square), we saw lovely quaint houses with pretty windows. We saw a beautiful lake with swans and ducks playing around and tourists in boats trying to capture the beauty of Brugge.
It felt like a medieval town.. this Brugge. If I had walked through the streets in a long flowy dress with a little umbrella and gloves, it could have been a scene from the late 1800s. Oh, and they even have horse carriages too!
If Paris is one of my favorite cities, Brugge is definitely my favorite European town (or village?). I love the little shops and the huge trees by the lake. I also love the little bridges that go across the canal and the smell of chocolate as you walk by the shops. (You are bound to see a shop selling chocolates every few minutes in Brugge.. and yes, most of them are home-made too! Most delicious ever!)
Here are some pictures of my recent trip to Brugge:
*NOTE: All pictures taken by me, using the iPhone5. Hahah. Nak jugak cakap.. :)
So there... how can I not fall in love with Brugge...?
Okay lah. Nak sambung update my LinkedIn. The internet's been pretty wonky.. Bleurghhh..
Malam ni ada Arsenal-Liverpool game. Go Gunners!
xoxo
