Aug 7 - D-Day!

August 7 2013 is an important date for me. Not just because it's mummy's birthday.. but it's also because of the deadline given by Sudan's President, Omar Bashir for oil to stop flowing from South Sudan through the pipeline that runs straight to Port Sudan (in Sudan).

A tricky and delicate issue.. but exciting, nevertheless. The thing is, when President Bashir made the announcement late last month to say that South Sudan has 60 days to beef up on their security issue or else he will not allow the oil to flow from South Sudan to the port, many were shocked. After all, didn't the two countries just decided to let the oil flow a few months ago since they halted production in Jan 2012?

Well anyway... times like these, I'm glad I'm in Sudan. Yes, I might not know the operational stuff.. but I get satisfaction just understanding what is happening. After all, kalau I nak tahu technical stuff, lebih baik I belajar petroleum engineering dulu kan? ;)

But what is interesting for me, is to observe and understand the geopolitical impact of all this. Oil is of course the most important resource for both countries. No denying that. So how are these leaders going to resolve this issue?

I personally think this recent threat of shutdown etc could be a Master's degree thesis (or at least a mini thesis) on war strategy or conflict resolution. Kan?

Even more interesting is the fact that we have our bosses who flew in from Malaysia and our partner's bosses from China flying in just to "pujuk" the two countries. Would it work? We will just have to wait and see. It would be interesting to see if major investors have any say in administration of Governments.

So yes, exciting times for me. Even more exciting because I took a bet with a friend. If the oil continues to flow come Aug 7, yours truly will get the new iPad mini 2 when it comes out..

iPad Mini review
Hahah. I know, I know.. I just got myself the iPhone 5 (which is my gift to myself) but hey, a girl like me can never have enough gadgets kan? :)

On another note..

The royal couple Kate and William (Duke and Duchess of Cambridge) had just had a baby boy. BBC tak habis-habis talk about it.. right from the time Kate was having her early contractions sampai lah the baby keluar dari hospital.

And now, kecoh nak tunggu nama anak pulak. Heheh. Britons, britons. Never could I imagine the impact of birth of ONE baby. Well, not just any baby lah. This baby is third in line for king-ship (after grand-daddy Charles and daddy William) for one of the oldest monarchy in the world. (Oh, and apparently, the baby ada darah dari keturunan Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. through a Muslim princess in Spain who later converted to Christianity..)

Oh well.

Oklah. I nak surf the net for mama's birthday present. Heheh. Thank God for online shopping!
